As a past National Park ranger I have a special place in my heart for national parks. I am especially fond of island national parks that have ecosystems cut off from the rest of the world. In 2011 a local couple from Colorado Springs hired me to photograph their July wedding in Minneapolis. I knew this was my chance to finally visit Isle Royale National Park. To give you an idea of what the park is like, the park website describes it as ‘a remote island wilderness in the middle of Lake Superior, which is only accessible by ferry, seaplane, or private watercraft’. Another awesome fact about the park is that “The ecological study of wolves on Isle Royale is the longest running large mammal predator-prey study on earth. The park celebrated the study’s 50th anniversary in 2008.”
