Hovenweep National Monument Photography

In 2013 Neal Herbert, Visual Information Specialist for the Moab group of National Parks, let me assist him with some photography projects at his set of parks in Utah. Hovenweep National Monument was by far the most remote of the four I worked at.  The park is closest to four corners, but even that is not very close.  It is a really special place, “Most of the structures at Hovenweep were built between A.D. 1200 and 1300. There is quite a variety of shapes and sizes, including square and circular towers, D-shaped dwellings and many kivas (Puebloan ceremonial structures, usually circular). The masonry at Hovenweep is as skillful as it is beautiful. Even the cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde rarely exhibit such careful construction and attention to detail.”
